Liturgy for Morning Prayer

15 Minute Version

Address:

Father God, creator of heaven and earth,
God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob,
God of Israel,
God and Father of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, True and Living God who is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit Have mercy an hear my prayer.

First Prayers:

O Lord, open our lips.
And our mouth shall proclaim your praise.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

O God, make speed to save us. O Lord, make haste to help us.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

Psalm For the Day:

(Corresponding Psalm for the Day of the Month from the Book of Common Prayer)

Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures He leads me beside still waters.

He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness for his Name's sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I shall fear no evil;
For you are with me;
Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil,
My cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Psalm 91:12

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High,

shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty
I will say of the Lord,
"You are my fortress and my refuge,

my God in who I will trust."

Prayer for the Family:

(Take a moment to pray for your immediate family)

Psalm 103:15

Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and all that is within me, bless his Holy Name. Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and forget not all his benefits.
He pardons all your iniquities,
and heals all your diseases;
He redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with loving-kindness and mercy;

He satisfies you with good things,
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's. Bless the Lord, O my soul,
And all that is within me bless his holy name.

Lord's Prayer:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name,
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Petition and Intercession:

(Making our needs known and praying for others)

Prayer of St. Francis:

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.

Where there is hatred, let me sow love;

Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;

Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy,
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;

to be understood, as to understand;

to be loved, as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.

Scripture Reading:

(Read and reflect on a passage of scripture of your own choosing)

Prayer for Grace:

Lord God, almighty and everlasting Father, you have brought us in safety to this new day; preserve us with our mighty power, that we may not fall into sin, nor be overcome by adversity; and in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose,

through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer of Thanksgiving:

Almighty God, Father of all mercies,
we your unworthy servants give you humble thanks
for all your goodness and loving-kindness
to us and to all who you have made.
We bless you for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life;

but above all for your immeasurable love
in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ;
for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory.
And, we pray, give us such awareness of your mercies,
that with truly thankful hearts we may show forth your praise,
not only with our lips, but in our lives,
by giving up ourselves to your service,
and by walking before you
in holiness and righteousness all our days;
through Jesus Christ Our Lord,
to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit,
be honor and glory through all ages. Amen.
